V14 - Improved Trading, New Research, Mills & Wheat

Hello! I've been working hard to improve the game. There was some feedback about trading not being a smooth experience so I have improved it. Trading can now be done repeatedly. Previously, boats would get dismissed after a successful trade and you had to wait to buy the items a second time after acquiring friendship. Now you can buy items immediately after gaining friendship!

The trading UI now also has a confirmation popup to show what is being traded and you can now see the Friendship gained before you transact.


I have also improved the game progression by adding new research to introduce new buildings and mechanics more gradually, such as the cookhouse that feed settlers. Research has been rebalanced as the Recipe Book is quite difficult to acquire, and it was preventing important research (Healthcare) from being acquired  when they are used to treat injuries. Thus the item requirement has been changed. The recipe book is now required for a newly added research and the cost has been decreased. 

I have also re-ordered the research to be more intuitive, as some end-game researches were available at the start, causing confusion on how to acquire the ingredients to research them.

There is now a visual effect for injured settlers recovering in mattresses.  The medicines are now shown as bottles in mattresses instead of generic item boxes and some graphical changes have been improved. It was also too easy for settlers to get injured,  so the chance of injuries have been decreased, and Oxygen Tanks now reduce chance of injury to 0%! As the game is still being actively tested, these may still change in future as the game is being balanced. (See more balancing changes in the logs below!)


I have also added Mills, a way to create a new type of intermediate food in the game which will be useful in  the next update.

  • Recipe book base cost reduced from 40 -> 30 
  • 'Herbs' research now costs 2 iron ore instead of a recipe book
  • Repair Lighthouse Steel Cost reduced from 20 -> 10 
  • Reduced Scuba Station Injury chance: 5% -> 3% 
  • Oxygen Tanks in scuba stations now reduce injury chance to 0% 

Graphics: 

  • Glass in smelters no longer renders ugly dithered shadows 
  • Coal in smelters no longer cast shadows 
  • Fixed Dance Floor edge flickering when built at edges of decks 
  • Added 4k as new resolution setting 

UI: 

  • Character follow button now shows correct 'Follow' tooltip 
  • Character follow button changed to magnifying glass icon (previously a camera icon) 
  • Increased size of notification for when trader arrives by 50% 
  • Cookhouse menu now says "Choose food to cook" instead of "item to craft" 
  • Injured status hover tooltip is now more descriptive on how to cure injuries 
  • Medicine description is now more descriptive on how to use it to cure injuries 
  • Photo Mode now hides speech bubbles, injury statuses and character emojis 
  • Farm now shows the seeds it can grow, but greyscales the one that cannot be grown yet 
  • Dining table is slightly more descriptive about its relationship to cookhouse. 
  • Shifted Character UI to top left 
  • Shifted settlement stats to top right 
  • Added tooltip for Hunger and Thirst at the top left. 
  • Added tooltip for refresh recipe button 
  • A popup to confirm trade has been added 
  • A popup to confirm dismissing traders has been added to multiplayer 
  • Renamed OCD Perfectionist trait to Perfectionist 
  • Removed Singlish dialogs for now (if  there are still remaining ones, they will be removed later)
  • When the mineral patch is depleted, character is unassigned automatically 

Bug Fixes: 

  • Rain no longer regenerates medicine amount in mattresses 
  • In Multiplayer, building a submarine now builds it for everyone 
  • Fixed trade panel showing 'yyz291' instead of player's name 
  • Fixed "+2 friendship" trader text sometimes appearing twice instead of once 
  • Can no longer select characters in scuba stations 
  • Fixed getting stuck in nasty colliders in house interiors 
  • Fixed charcoal maker saying [duration] text instead of actual numbers 
  • Fixed golden retriever not disappearing from Farmer Dave's boat if you purchased him 
  • Removed Multiplayer inventory loading for now 
  • Can no longer pass through signboards in Lobby 
  • Fixed typo in Flight dialog 
  • Fixed "Cannot Destroy Mineral Patch" bug 
  • Fixed Mini Drill not showing power consumption 
  • Got rid of "Oops, another player has already set the seed." warning. 
  • Can no longer mine a depleted mineral patch 
  • You no longer slide down the staircase at the lighthouse
